St John WA has been serving the Western Australian community since 1922. Our organisation has grown into an integrated healthcare provider, connecting people across WA to lifesaving emergency services, urgent care, and health education.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, and we are committed to making a positive impact on the safety, wellbeing, and health of everyone, no matter where in WA they live. Our services are powered by more than 8,000 dedicated employees and volunteers who bring care, skill, and compassion to every corner of the state.

About the Role:

Are you someone who thrives in technical complexity and enjoys shaping best‑practice standards across platforms and teams?

We are looking for an Infrastructure Lead to join our Digital Services department on a permanent full-time basis. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and design authority across Microsoft infrastructure, identity and cloud platforms, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, supportable and aligned to enterprise architecture standards.

This position defines and governs target state architectures for Active Directory, Windows Server, Azure and hybrid environments, assuring delivery alignment while addressing risk, technical debt and operational readiness. Working closely with Enterprise Architects, security and delivery teams, the Infrastructure Lead translates business strategy into pragmatic, cost effective infrastructure outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

  • Set and maintain enterprise‑wide technical standards, patterns and priorities, ensuring alignment with architecture governance and security principles.
  • Provide architectural oversight to delivery teams, including mentoring engineers, managing escalations and proactively communicating risks and issues.
  • Manage the development and approval of architecture artefacts including reference architectures, high-level and low-level designs, and architecture decision records.
  • Ensure that implementation aligns to approved designs through structured reviews, build validation, operational readiness activities and service handover.
  • Develop and drive remediation plans for technical debt, lifecycle risks and legacy infrastructure, ensuring platforms remain modern, reliable and supportable.
  • Guide the design of resilient infrastructure services including storage, backup, disaster recovery, monitoring and automation to meet enterprise availability needs.
  • Embed security‑by‑design practices through strong access controls, privileged access management, hardening, auditability and compliance‑aligned design.
  • Manage a range of people-related matters including conduct, performance, fitness and grievances, ensuring issues are addressed appropriately or escalated when required, while supporting team capability through ongoing training and development.
  • Oversee team resourcing needs by ensuring vacancies are filled through timely recruitment processes and perform on‑call duties in line with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience (desirable).
  • Minimum 7+ years demonstrated experience in a similar infrastructure or solutions architect role, with delivery accountability across complex enterprise environments.
  • Strong capability across Microsoft identity services, Windows Server and Azure environments.
  • Deep understanding of Azure architecture and hybrid integration, including governance, networking, compute, storage, security and monitoring.
  • Strong grounding in security fundamentals such as least privilege, privileged access, secure configuration baselines, PKI concepts and incident readiness.
  • Proven ability to design, document and deliver infrastructure solutions that meet non‑functional requirements including security, resilience, performance and scalability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience with automation, scripting (e.g., PowerShell) or infrastructure‑as‑code principles (desirable).

Benefits:

The successful candidate will be offered an interactive and supportive working environment, along with:

  • $550 Health and Wellness reimbursement
  • 17.5% leave loading
  • Salary packaging and novated leasing
  • Consumer discounts
  • Discounts on first aid equipment
