We are currently seeking expressions of interest from General Practitioners to join our St John Urgent Care team. Permanent salaried roles, casual positions and ad-hoc shifts are available.
St John Urgent Care is designed to manage acute but non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses which would otherwise present directly to an Emergency Department

Knowing first aid is a vital skill and we actively encourage all employees to learn it. Statistics indicate that 80% of cardiac arrests occur in the home and that for each minute CPR is not administered, a patient’s survival rate decreases by 10%.
All employees are offered a complementary HLTAID011 Provide first aid course every three years, which is conducted at a St John Ambulance WA training centre. Immediate family members living at the same address as the employee are also entitled to one free course every three years.
As one of the largest medical providers in WA, St John understands the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. To ensure a healthy workforce, St John offers a Health and Wellbeing benefit valued at $550 to eligible staff (pro-rata for part-time employees) to help towards covering the cost of ongoing memberships such as health clubs, gyms, pilates and yoga classes. Health programs such as Quit Now or Weight Watchers are also covered by the benefit as is leasing certain sporting equipment (e.g. treadmills, cross trainers).
When we retire we all hope to have enough money to afford a comfortable lifestyle. For most of us this will come from our superannuation funds. As an added incentive to save, any employee who makes an extra 5% contribution to their superannuation fund (in addition to St John’s contribution) will receive an additional 1.5% top up based upon their ordinary earnings (excludes overtime and penalties).
No home or car is complete without a St John first aid kit. They contain all the necessary supplies and equipment needed in the event of a mishap. St John allows employees to purchase first aid kits and equipment at heavily discounted prices.
We’ll help you maximise your income. Salary packaging is one of the most popular benefits our employees enjoy. Salary packaging can substantially increase your take-home pay. Salary packaging allows you to allocate a portion of your annual pay towards expenses before it is taxed, resulting in more money in your pocket.
Health insurance provides valuable peace of mind against those unforeseen circumstances.
To encourage our people to obtain private health insurance, St John has partnered with select insurance providers who are able to provide a substantial discount on insurance premiums.
As recognition of the hard work our employees contribute to the organisation, St John waives any fees associated with ambulance transport within Western Australia. The benefit also covers partners and dependent children, and there is no limit to how many times you can use the service.
St John WA engages with doctors under a range of commercial agreements such as independent contractors (where you are self-employed and contract your services to us). Have a chat with our recruitment team and we can work on how to structure a contract that suits your needs.
There’s more than one type of GP role offering at St John. For those who prefer to treat patients in more traditional appointment-based consults, our medical facilities also include a regular general practice.
The Urgent Care role is well-suited to those looking for a change of pace, or for some more variety, some GPs choose to work across both.
Our Urgent Care centres are large purpose-built facilities which have digital x-ray, casting and splinting capability on site, as well as facilities for minor procedures, IV administration and acute dental care.
These centres replicate some features of the hospital environment. All imaging is expertly reported by Perth Radiological Clinic. St John Urgent Care centres have specialists on call to provide orthopaedic and plastics advice throughout extended hours, rapid radiology reporting arrangements, and a review clinic to follow up results and manage non-operative fractures and injuries over time.
The service is very popular with patients and offers excellent clinical exposure for GPs who like to work in a team environment and manage injuries and non-life-threatening illnesses.
To work with St John as a GP in Australia, you must have Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). We will provide you with all the relevant forms and information to help you through the process should you need us to.
We will also provide more information on the GP opportunities available within each St John practice, including contract and income information.
