Our services are powered by more than 8,000 dedicated employees and volunteers who bring care, skill, and compassion to every corner of the state.

About the role:

The Data Science and Analytics team at St John WA uses data analysis and visualisation tools to help the organisation make informed decisions to better serve the WA community.

The broader Data Science and Analytics team operates as an in-house consulting function for analysis and decision support services, translating business problems into:

  • Analysis;
  • Automated information products;
  • Advanced analytics and data science services; and/or
  • Advice and recommendations.

Current team members have diverse backgrounds with qualifications including physics, mathematics, engineering, health, psychology and business, and have previously worked across the government, private, academic, consulting, and defence sectors.

An exciting opportunity is now available for one Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to join the team. This is a permanent full-time position based at our State Office in Belmont.

Applications are encouraged from professionals in the data analysis or business intelligence industry, or related industries and seeking a career pivot, who are keen to contribute their skills and experience to a community focussed organisation.

What you’ll do:

  • As a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, you will enable decision making through data analysis, reporting products, and advice on data and statistical matters.

In a typical day you might:

  • Meet with senior managers to understand a decision they need your help to make.
  • Engage domain experts to understand the business process and how real-world actions are recorded in front-end systems.
  • Identify, extract, analyse, and visualise relevant data, and then present your results and recommendations via an easy-to-understand report, infographic, or interactive dashboard.
  • Proactively troubleshoot and problem solve any issues that arise.
  • Document and coach other team members on what you’ve learnt about business processes, data sources, and definitions.
  • Use project management skills to organise and plan your approach.

What you’ll need:

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Natural or learned critical thinking skills,
  • Gratification working with complex data sets to identify insights,
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to engage and influence key stakeholders,
  • Excellent attention to detail,
  • Strong planning skills,
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment,
  • Ability to conceptualise and articulate complex concepts to non-domain experts, and
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business needs into reporting solutions.

It is also beneficial (but not necessary) if you have:

  • Knowledge of database and business intelligence concepts;
  • Exposure or experience in common industry tools such as Power BI, and SQL Server Management Studio, as well as coding or query languages; and
  • Exposure or experience with project management methodologies e.g. PRINCE 2, PMBOK, Agile or similar.

Qualifications:

Tertiary qualification in a quantitative subject (such as mathematics, business, science, engineering, or information technology) or professional experience in a relevant field.

What’s in it for you?

  • $550 health and wellness allowance
  • 17.5% annual leave loading
  • Salary packaging options
  • Two additional leave days per year
  • Flexible working hours
  • Option to work from home one day per week (after probation)
  • Free first aid training and ambulance cover
  • Free onsite parking
  • You will be part of a highly capable, motivated and collegial team.

To apply:

  • Applications must include a comprehensive CV, and a cover letter of no more than two (2) pages, that clearly outlines:
  • Why this opportunity interests you and your motivation to apply;
  • An example of when you have needed to communicate complex, technical information to someone without domain expertise; and
  • An example of a project or task you have undertaken that involved analysing data to make recommendations or inform decision making.
