As a Wellbeing Operations Support Officer (WOSO), you will be a point of contact for our staff and volunteers, offering vital guidance and support as they navigate emotional, practical, and personal challenges.

You will join our Wellbeing and Support team on a permanent basis on a 4 days on & 4 days off roster, with an average of 31.5 hours per week across the year. Your role will focus on providing timely, responsive support across the state, particularly to frontline team members following complex, traumatic, or high-stress incidents.

Whether offering in-person care at the State Control Centre, checking in with team’s post-incident, or guiding People Leaders through challenging situations, you will be a key part of our early intervention strategy - extending wraparound care when it’s needed most.

We are seeking someone who is resilient, empathetic, and driven to foster positive change. In this role, confidentiality, compassion, and continuous learning are key.

What you’ll do:

  • Monitor operational activity and identify staff exposure to significant or traumatic situations
  • Review trauma reports and initiate welfare checks via calls or in-person support
  • Provide Mental Health First Aid and triage further support pathways when needed
  • Facilitate engaging, evidence-informed mental health education and training (including 2-hour weekend sessions during rostered days)
  • Deliver wellbeing updates and reports to leaders and the Wellbeing Support Coordinator
  • Promote and represent the Wellbeing & Support team, resources, and programs
  • Provide an approachable and accessible service to on road staff members 
  • Maintain detailed, confidential case notes and contribute to psychological safety initiatives.

What you’ll need:

  • Experience in a frontline first responder role or working with frontline responders and mental health or counselling support role
  • Relevant qualification in Paramedicine, Nursing, Mental Health, or Counselling - highly preferred
  • AHPRA Registration, other relevant professional registration - desirable
  • Confident group facilitation and training delivery skills
  • Strong relationship-building and communication abilities
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and support people in emotionally complex situations
  • A proactive, compassionate mindset and a passion for fostering cultural change in mental health.
