Registered Nurse – Correctional Health

St John WA holds a contract with the Department of Justice to deliver comprehensive nursing services across multiple correctional facilities throughout the Perth metropolitan region.

The Opportunity

We're seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our Correctional Health team in a full-time, 6-month fixed-term role, with the potential for extension.

Working 40 hours per week on a rotating 12-hour roster, you will provide care across both day and night shifts within the newly established 39-bed Assisted Care Unit (ACU) and Outpatient Clinic at Casuarina Prison.

In this role, you will deliver high-quality care to patients with a diverse range of complex, chronic, and primary healthcare needs. The ACU operates with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, offering a broad scope of clinical practice, strong clinical support, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

About You

We’re looking for experienced Registered Nurses who are confident in their clinical judgement, adaptable and able to build professional relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care in a correctional health setting
• Complete nursing assessments and clinical reviews
• Manage acute and chronic health presentations
• Provide wound care and treatment of minor injuries
• Monitor patients and recognise and escalate clinical deterioration
• Support ongoing patient care and follow-up
• Collaborate with the broader multidisciplinary healthcare team
• Maintain professional boundaries and clinical standards

Essential Requirements

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions
• Minimum 5 years’ recent nursing experience
• Current National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months
• Current Advanced Life Support Certificate 1, or willingness to obtain
• Current CPR Certificate
• Current WA Working with Children Check
• Cannulation and venepuncture competency
• Ability to successfully complete comprehensive background and integrity checks
