The Fleet, Radio, and Equipment Department at St John WA plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of the organization’s statewide vehicle fleet. Comprising a dedicated team of 30 skilled professionals, the department is responsible for managing over 1,000 ambulances and transport vehicles across Western Australia.

Their responsibilities include the full fit-out of vehicles with essential medical and emergency equipment, the installation and maintenance of advanced radio communication systems to support real-time coordination, and the integration of other vital technologies. The team also oversees routine servicing, mechanical repairs, and preventative maintenance to ensure vehicles & medical equipment remain reliable and compliant with safety standards.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Medical Equipment Technician to join our State Control and Logistics department on a permanent full-time basis, working Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm. Ensure regular checks and services are carried out on all medical equipment and stretchers to ensure they are maintained to operational standards. You will work in a modern, fully air‑conditioned workshop with all equipment provided to support safe and efficient work. You will have your own service area and all the specialty tools needed to carry out repairs and servicing. We offer both inhouse and specialty training with our partners to keep you up to date with your skills.

What You’ll Do:

  • Ensure all organisational vehicles medical equipment is maintained and repaired to operational standards
  • Oversee Medical Equipment maintenance, upgrading and servicing on a regular basis
  • Facilitate the timely return of medical equipment
  • Ensure the transportation of vehicles, parts and equipment is actioned effectively
  • Develop modifications via improved repair methods to improve the quality of the fleet
  • Provide technical support for internal stakeholders to assist with technical information and repairs
  • Record service and repair information on service/fault sheets and update the fleet management system
  • Respond to email and phone enquiries from external and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the latest techniques for servicing and repairs

What You’ll Need:

  • C Class drivers’ license
  • Medical equipment maintenance and servicing experience
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently or in a small team
  • Competent computer skills with Excel & outlook
  • Good mechanical and problem-solving skills
  • Light Rigid (LR) license (desirable)
  • Experience with stretcher and equipment servicing (highly desirable)
