St John WA is seeking a proactive Safeguarding Officer – Child & Vulnerable People to join the team on a permanent, full-time basis. In this key role, you will manage and support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safeguarding strategies, policies, and training across the organisation.

As a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, you will play a vital role in ensuring St John WA meets national and state safeguarding standards - fostering a strong culture of safety, inclusion, and respect.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide expert advice on safeguarding policies, legislation, and best practices
  • Coordinate training initiatives across the organisation on child and vulnerable people protection
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and resources related to the safety of children and vulnerable people
  • Conduct regular audits of Working with Children Check processes and ensure legislative compliance
  • Oversee safeguarding governance, risk assessment, and incident response
  • Support youth-related projects and coordinate advisory groups including youth and carers
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as WA Police, the Department of Communities, and Elder Rights WA

What you’ll need:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in similar role, including, in the field of child safety, child protection, education, social work, psychology or similar
  • Working with Children Check and C Class driver’s license
  • Deep understanding of children and vulnerable people safeguarding legislation
  • Experience in policy development, risk assessment and incident management
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and project coordination skills
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred.
