Join St John WA as a Communications Officer, where your calm and decisive actions will make a direct impact on someone's life. Your critical role will include providing life-saving first aid advice and pre-arrival instructions during 000 calls. Based at our State Operations Centre in Belmont or Northern Hub in Wangara, you will offer support 24/7 to individuals during their most desperate moments.

In this role, you will:

  • Respond to emergency (000) and non-emergency calls across Western Australia
  • Deliver pre-arrival first aid instructions and emotional support to callers experiencing high anxiety
  • Maintain control of critical information flow while ensuring communication is clear, calm, and effective

What You’ll Need:

To succeed as a Communications Officer, you must have:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to stay calm and make sound decisions under pressure
  • A passion for helping your community in meaningful ways
  • Exceptional multitasking ability and a keen eye for detail
  • Strong keyboard and typing skills

You must also be an Australian permanent resident or citizen with ongoing work rights, and available to commit to a rotational shift work roster.

  • While you may work independently during calls, teamwork is crucial in emergency services. Can you give an example of how you worked effectively as part of a team to resolve a challenging situation?

Please note this recruitment is for the August/ late October intake and if successful will require 6 weeks of full-time training in our college.
