St John WA has been serving the Western Australian community since 1922. Our organisation has grown into an integrated healthcare provider, connecting people across WA to lifesaving emergency services, urgent care, and health education.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, and we are committed to making a positive impact on the safety, wellbeing, and health of everyone, no matter where in WA they live. Our services are powered by more than 8,000 dedicated employees and volunteers who bring care, skill, and compassion to every corner of the state.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Compliance Officer to join our Patient Safety and Quality team on a permanent full-time basis based in Belmont. This is a broad and varied role supporting St John WA's compliance, assurance and governance activities across a large and complex health and emergency services organisation.

Working as part of the Compliance team, you will contribute across compliance monitoring, internal assurance, quality management, complaints and investigations, policy governance, regulatory compliance, privacy and information governance.

Compliance Officers operate as generalists while also developing responsibility for a lead portfolio. Depending on organisational priorities, experience and capability, portfolios may include Assurance and Quality; Complaints and Investigations; Policy and Regulatory Compliance; or Privacy and Information Governance.

You will work closely with operational, clinical and corporate teams to provide practical advice, undertake reviews and assurance activities, identify emerging or systemic issues and support continual improvement across the organisation.

This is an opportunity to work across a diverse range of issues and develop broad compliance and governance capability in a safety-critical healthcare environment. We are looking for someone who is curious, analytical and comfortable asking questions, reviewing evidence and working collaboratively with others to improve systems and processes.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Conduct compliance reviews, internal quality audits and control testing, and contribute to organisational assurance activities.
  • Support St John WA’s Quality Management System, ISO 9001 requirements and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) processes.
  • Coordinate and support complaints, feedback and compliance investigations, including evidence review, reporting and escalation of significant matters.
  • Monitor legal, regulatory, contractual and organisational compliance requirements and support practical compliance advice to business areas.
  • Support policy governance, document control, policy review and the maintenance of clear, current and controlled organisational requirements.
  • Assist with privacy, information access and information governance matters, including records release and statutory information processes within delegated authority.
  • Analyse trends across complaints, audits, compliance issues, CAPA and other sources to identify systemic risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare clear, evidence-based reports, recommendations and governance information for leaders and committees.

What you’ll need:

  • Relevant experience in one or more of compliance, governance, quality, assurance, auditing, complaints, investigations, privacy or information management, with the capability to develop across other areas of the Compliance function.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement and the ability to identify when matters require escalation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, correspondence and recommendations.
  • High attention to detail and demonstrated ability to appropriately manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across multiple matters and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with operational, clinical and corporate stakeholders.
  • Experience working within a regulated or complex organisation is desirable.
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems, compliance monitoring, internal assurance, privacy or information governance is desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification in Business, Quality Management, Governance, Health Administration or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification, or willingness to obtain, is desirable.
  • Qualifications or professional development in compliance, auditing, investigations, quality management, privacy or continual improvement will be highly regarded.

Benefits:

The successful candidate will be offered an interactive and supportive working environment, along with:

  • $550 Health and Wellness reimbursement
  • 17.5% leave loading
  • Corporate uniform
  • Salary packaging and novated leasing
  • Consumer discounts
  • Discounts on first aid equipment
  • Complimentary First Aid Training
  • Complimentary ambulance cover
