- Closing at: Sep 21 2026 - 18:00 AWST
St John WA has been serving the Western Australian community since 1922. Our organisation has grown into an integrated healthcare provider, connecting people across WA to lifesaving emergency services, urgent care, and health education.
We are a not-for-profit organisation, and we are committed to making a positive impact on the safety, wellbeing, and health of everyone, no matter where in WA they live. Our services are powered by more than 8,000 dedicated employees and volunteers who bring care, skill, and compassion to every corner of the state.
About the Role:
We are looking for a Compliance Lead to join our Patient Safety and Quality team on a permanent full-time basis based in Belmont. This is a key leadership role responsible for the effective operation and ongoing development of St John WA's Compliance function across a large and complex health and emergency services organisation.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Patient Safety and Quality, you will lead a team of Compliance Officers responsible for delivering assurance and quality activities, complaints management, policy and regulatory compliance, and privacy and information governance.
You will establish priorities, allocate team capacity, provide oversight of significant matters and ensure the function delivers practical, proportionate and risk-based compliance support across St John WA.
The role retains stewardship of St John WA's Quality Management System, including ISO 9001, internal assurance and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA), while ensuring these activities are integrated with the broader compliance function and organisational priorities.
This is an opportunity to shape and mature a contemporary Compliance function, build specialist capability within a generalist team, and draw on assurance, complaints, regulatory, privacy and governance insights to identify systemic risks, strengthen organisational controls and support continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead and continually develop St John WA’s Compliance operating model, annual work program and portfolio-based team structure.
- Establish priorities and allocate team capacity using a risk-based approach that balances planned assurance activity with reactive demand.
- Oversee significant compliance risks, breaches, complaints and emerging issues, ensuring appropriate escalation through established pathways.
- Lead organisational assurance and compliance monitoring activities
- Maintain stewardship of the Quality Management System, ISO 9001 certification activities, eQMS and CAPA framework, including evaluation of corrective action effectiveness.
- Oversee complaint and investigation governance, including complex, sensitive or independence-sensitive matters.
- Lead organisational systems for regulatory obligations, regulatory change and policy governance, while supporting business areas to retain ownership of operational compliance.
- Develop meaningful compliance intelligence, dashboards and reporting for Executive Leadership and governance committees.
- Lead, coach and develop Compliance Officers, building clear portfolio ownership, cross-cover and succession capability across the team.
What you’ll need:
- Demonstrated leadership experience within compliance, assurance, quality management or governance in a complex organisation.
- Experience leading a multi-functional compliance, governance or assurance service and balancing planned priorities with reactive and high-risk matters.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary compliance management, governance and assurance principles, including clear operational and oversight accountabilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading audit, assurance or compliance monitoring programs and corrective action frameworks.
- Experience in one or more of complaint management, policy and regulatory compliance, information governance, or quality management systems.
- Highly developed analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify systemic issues and translate complex information into practical recommendations.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with operational, clinical, corporate and senior leadership stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop a collaborative, high-performing team.
- Experience within healthcare, emergency services or another complex and highly regulated environment is desirable.
Qualifications:
- Qualified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor (essential).
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Compliance, Quality Management, Business, Governance, Health, Law or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Qualification or formal training in investigations, compliance management, privacy, governance or continual improvement is desirable.
Benefits:
The successful candidate will be offered an interactive and supportive working environment, along with:
- $550 Health and Wellness reimbursement
- 17.5% leave loading
- Corporate uniform
- Salary packaging and novated leasing
- Consumer discounts
- Discounts on first aid equipment
- Complimentary First Aid Training
