About the Role:

We have two Parental Leave contract opportunities available within the Corporate Affairs team at St John WA - a Corporate Communications Lead and a Corporate Communications Officer.

In both roles, you will use your creative writing skills and communication expertise to deliver communication strategies and initiatives aligned with St John WA’s values and Strategic Plan.

The Corporate Communications Officer will report to the Corporate Communications Lead and work alongside three colleagues. The Corporate Communications Lead will report directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs and lead a team of four officers. Both positions are supported within a collaborative Corporate Affairs team, offering a strong foundation of knowledge and expertise to set you up for success.

These are 12-month fixed term full-time role (parental leave cover), based in Belmont, with flexibility around start and finish times, as well as work-from-home opportunities.

What You’ll Do:

In both roles, you will:

  • Partner with stakeholders and leaders to deliver effective, audience-focused communications
  • Plan, brief, and manage the development of communication materials across internal and external channels
  • Ensure content is tailored for platforms such as intranet, social media, publications, and other channels
  • Support the delivery of organisation-wide communication strategies that enhance employee engagement
  • Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on best-practice communication approaches and tools

Additional responsibilities for the Lead role include:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of communications professionals
  • Partner with senior leaders and executives to navigate complex communication challenges
  • Lead or coordinate crisis communication responses
  • Develop and deliver strategic communication plans aligned to business needs

What You’ll Need:

Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging and channels to suit diverse stakeholder groups
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience in a similar role within a complex organisation, including stakeholder identification, mapping, and engagement
  • Demonstrated experience developing, delivering, and evaluating communication plans and initiatives
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve shared objectives
  • Experience delivering communications across digital platforms (eDMs, SMS, event systems, social media) and creating content for a variety of channels
  • Ability to maintain consistent brand, tone, and messaging, with a solid understanding of best practices in stakeholder engagement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field (desirable)
  • Familiarity with relevant software and tools, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, MS365 tools including social media and intranet.

Additional for the Lead role:

  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing or supporting crisis communications
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders and executives in a complex environment
