The Organisation

St John WA’s Industry Medical Services (IMS) team is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our FIFO team supporting Rio Tinto Iron Ore sites across the Pilbara.

The Opportunity:

This is a 9-month fixed-term contract, subject to performance and operational requirements, working across Rio Tinto sites on 8:6 and 7:7 rosters, including day and night shifts of up to 12.25 hours.

While your emergency nursing experience will be invaluable when responding to onsite emergencies, the role extends well beyond emergency response. You’ll provide a broad range of occupational health services, supporting the health, wellbeing and fitness of the site workforce.

Your day may include:

  • Conducting comprehensive clinical assessments and determining appropriate treatment or escalation
  • Managing workplace injuries, illness and minor presentations
  • Responding to onsite emergencies and providing immediate clinical care
  • Conducting occupational and pre-employment health assessments
  • Performing drug and alcohol screening and pathology collection
  • Supporting health surveillance and preventative health programs
  • Providing health education and contributing to workforce wellbeing initiatives
  • Working alongside site leadership and health teams to support a safe and healthy workforce

Why this role?

If you’re looking to take your acute clinical skills outside of the hospital environment, this is an opportunity to broaden your scope, work autonomously and experience the unique FIFO environment of the Pilbara.

You’ll be supported by a specialist healthcare team while developing valuable experience across emergency response, occupational health and remote clinical practice.

We’re looking for nurses who are confident clinicians, strong assessors and comfortable working in a remote environment.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Minimum 2 years’ Emergency Department RN experience
  • Experience in emergency, remote or occupational health nursing
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Confidence working autonomously and as part of a team
  • Ability to work day and night shifts
  • Experience with health assessments, drug and alcohol screening and clinical documentation

Essential Requirements:

  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Current CPR and First Aid (ALS preferred)
  • Manual Driver’s Licence
  • National Police Clearance
  • Drug & Alcohol Testing qualification (HLTPAT010)
  • Cannulation competency

What’s on offer?

  • FIFO across Rio Tinto Iron Ore sites in the Pilbara
  • 8:6 and 7:7 rosters
  • 9-month fixed-term contract
  • Exposure to emergency, occupational and remote nursing
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • Salary packaging and staff discounts
  • Uniform provided

Join St John WA’s IMS team and bring your clinical expertise to the Pilbara, working across emergency response, occupational health and remote clinical care.
