About the Role:
We are looking for Payroll Compliance Officers to join our Finance team on a permanent full-time basis based in our head office in Belmont.
Payroll at St John WA is transforming, and we're building a dedicated Payroll Compliance function to help shape its future.
As part of a significant transformation journey, St John WA is establishing a new Payroll Compliance stream focused on payroll quality, auditing, review activities and continuous improvement across the organisation.
Over the coming years, St John WA will deliver several key initiatives across Human Resources, Time & Attendance and Payroll, including a future payroll system replacement currently planned for 2028. As a Payroll Compliance Officer, you will contribute to this journey by helping improve payroll accuracy, consistency and legislative compliance.
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will undertake payroll reviews, reconciliations, auditing activities, documentation management and payroll investigations. Working closely with Payroll, Finance and People Services teams, you will help strengthen payroll practices and support the successful delivery of payroll transformation initiatives.
What You'll Do
- Conduct payroll reviews, peer-checking and quality assurance activities.
- Perform payroll, leave, superannuation and taxation reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Review payroll transactions and employee data to identify anomalies and potential compliance issues.
- Support internal and external audits through the preparation of documentation, evidence and audit responses.
- Maintain payroll procedures, work instructions and compliance documentation.
- Interpret and apply relevant legislation, Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
- Investigate payroll discrepancies, overpayments and underpayments.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and data integrity.
- Contribute to payroll projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide payroll operational support when required to support business continuity.
What You'll Need
- Experience in payroll within a medium to large and/or complex organisation.
- Sound understanding of payroll legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and payroll best practice.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and exceptions.
- Experience performing payroll reconciliations and reviewing payroll data for accuracy and compliance.
- High level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Demonstrated integrity and the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality payroll outcomes.
- Experience with Chris21 or a similar enterprise payroll system will be highly regarded.
