St John WA has been serving the Western Australian community since 1922. Our organisation has grown into an integrated healthcare provider, connecting people across WA to lifesaving emergency services, urgent care, and health education.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, and we are committed to making a positive impact on the safety, wellbeing, and health of everyone, no matter where in WA they live. Our services are powered by more than 8,000 dedicated employees and volunteers who bring care, skill, and compassion to every corner of the state.

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity is now available for one Principal Business Intelligence Analyst to join the team. This is a permanent full-time position based in Belmont.

The Data Science and Analytics team at St John WA uses data analysis and visualisation tools to help the organisation make informed decisions to better serve the community. Current team members have diverse backgrounds with qualifications including physics, mathematics, engineering, health, psychology and business, and have previously worked across the government, private, academic, consulting, and defence sectors.

Applications are encouraged from experienced data analysis or business intelligence industry professionals who are keen to contribute their skills and experience to a community focussed organisation.

What You’ll Do:

Your job will be to help senior leaders and frontline staff solve problems and make better informed decisions by analysing and visualising data. In doing so you’ll have a direct impact on the delivery of life saving ambulance services, urgent care, and first aid training across WA.

Principal Business Intelligence Analysts provide analysis and decision support services, lead projects to develop reporting products, give advice on data and statistical matters, and coach less experienced analysts.

This is a diverse role in which you’ll work with stakeholders, business processes, and complex data sets spanning operational, financial, workforce, and contractual domains. In doing so, you’ll use a range of business intelligence and analytics frameworks and tools.

You will be a senior member of a highly capable, motivated and collegial team, which works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide high-quality services to St John WA and the community.

In a typical day you might:

  • Meet with senior executives or internal stakeholders to understand a challenge or opportunity they need your help to address
  • Engage domain experts to understand the business process and how real-world actions are recorded in front-end systems
  • Identify, extract, analyse, and visualise relevant data, and then present your results and recommendations via an easy-to-understand report, infographic, or interactive dashboard
  • Proactively troubleshoot and problem solve any issues that arise
  • Investigate and document in business processes, data sources, and definitions
  • Provide training, coaching, and quality assurance to less experienced analysts
  • Manage projects to deliver new information products and develop data models
  • Represent our team in key meetings to influence decisions that impact our reporting capability
  • Identify and implement improvements that enable the team to operate more efficiently and/or effectively

You will have strong support from management and the broader team, and will be given the space to work proactively, innovate, and drive new initiatives.

What You’ll Need:

The key attributes to succeed in these roles are excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working with complex data sets to identify insights, while at the same time engaging with stakeholders to understanding their business and effectively communicate results to inform real-world decisions.

More broadly, successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Excellent conceptual and critical thinking skills
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to engage and influence key stakeholders
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong planning skills
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment
  • Ability to conceptualise and articulate complex concepts to non-domain experts
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate business needs into reporting solutions
  • Knowledge of business intelligence and analytics concepts including experience with common industry tools, as well as coding or query languages
  • Experience with project management methodologies e.g. PRINCE 2, PMBOK, Agile or similar

It is also beneficial (but not necessary) if you have:

  • Experience training and coaching junior analysts
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing best practice business intelligence and analytics methodologies, knowledge management, quality assurance and product documentation

The required qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a quantitative subject (such as mathematics, business, science, engineering, or information technology) or extensive professional experience in a relevant field

Benefits:

The successful candidate will be offered an interactive and supportive working environment, along with:

  • $550 Health and Wellness reimbursement
  • 17.5% leave loading
  • Corporate uniform
  • Salary packaging and novated leasing
  • Consumer discounts
  • Discounts on first aid equipment
  • Complimentary First Aid Training
  • Complimentary ambulance cover
  • Flexible working hours
  • Option to work from home one day per week (after probation)
  • Free onsite parking
