About the Role:

At St John WA, our 000 Call Takers play a vital role at the heart of emergency response in Western Australia. In this critical position, you will provide life-saving first aid advice and pre-arrival instructions during 000 calls, helping people through some of their most urgent and distressing moments. Based at our State Control Centre in Belmont or our Northern Hub in Wangara, you will support the community as part of our 24/7 operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Answer emergency (000) and non-emergency calls across Western Australia
  • Provide critical pre-arrival instructions, including lifesaving first aid advice
  • Support callers experiencing highly stressful and emotional situations
  • Maintain control of calls while communicating with clarity, empathy, and confidence

What You’ll Need:

  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification
  • Recent experience working in an Emergency Operations Centre, with proficiency in ProQA MPDS
  • Strong communication skills – you can stay clear, confident, and compassionate, even when the pressure is on.
  • Calm decision-making – you think quickly, stay composed, and provide life-saving guidance when it matters most.
  • A genuine passion for helping others – you care deeply about your community and want a career where you can make a real difference every day.
  • Exceptional multitasking and attention to detail – you can juggle multiple screens, conversations, and data while keeping accuracy front of mind.
  • Confident computer and typing skills – you’re comfortable navigating systems and capturing vital information quickly and correctly.

To join our team, you will need to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident with full working rights and be able to commit to rotational shift work supporting our 24/7 operations. Shifts are 12 hours in duration, with day shifts from 7am to 7pm and night shifts from 7pm to 7am.
