The Opportunity

We’re currently seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our correctional health team at Melaleuca Prison, with a flexible casual opportunity available.

This is a great opportunity for experienced RNs looking for flexibility, with 12-hour day and night shifts available, working 7:00am–7:00pm or 7:00pm–7:00am.

Working within the Melaleuca Prison health centre, you’ll provide care to patients with a broad range of acute, chronic and ongoing healthcare needs. The role offers a varied scope of clinical practice, with the opportunity to utilise your clinical assessment skills, judgement and ability to work autonomously.

You’ll be supported by an experienced clinical and multidisciplinary healthcare team, while working closely with custodial staff to provide safe and effective patient care.

About You

We’re looking for experienced Registered Nurses who are confident in their clinical judgement, adaptable and able to build professional relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care in a correctional health setting
  • Complete nursing assessments and clinical reviews
  • Manage acute and chronic health presentations
  • Provide wound care and treatment of minor injuries
  • Monitor patients and recognise and escalate clinical deterioration
  • Support ongoing patient care and follow-up
  • Collaborate with the broader multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Provide health education, support and guidance to patients to promote ongoing health and wellbeing

Essential Requirements

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions
  • Minimum 3 years’ recent nursing experience
  • Current National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months
  • Current Advanced Life Support Certificate 1, or willingness to obtain
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Current WA Working with Children Check
  • Cannulation and venepuncture competency
  • Ability to successfully complete comprehensive background and integrity checks
